Beauty, Hair & Spa Awards close for
entries on 28 July

The Beauty, Hair & Spa Awards are back for 2023, with the gala ceremony taking place in the InterContinental Dublin on 12 November.
Judged independently by a panel of experts, who are chosen for their knowledge and skills, they close for entries on 28 July.
With 14 categories in total across beauty, hair and spa, the awards recognise the best professionals in the industry, from beauty and hair salon owners, nails technicians and MUAs, to aesthetic practitioners and clinics, hair colour technicians, educators and business directors.
Entering and winning can help you to stand out from the competition, attract new clients, gain press coverage, motivate your team, increase your credibility and gain valuable feedback.

Lisa Eccles appointed president of IHF
Lisa Eccles has been appointed the new president of the Irish Hairdressers Federation (IHF) at the industry body's annual general meeting. She takes over from outgoing president Danielle Kennedy.
Owner of Zinc Hair & Beauty in Dublin, Eccles has served as vice-president of the IHF for the last three years, and the IHF committee said it was delighted to welcome her into her new role, and wished her a successful and fulfilling tenure.
Eccles said that she is deeply honoured to be taking over as IHF president. “The IHF is in a very positive position, thanks to all the hard work Danielle Kennedy has put in over the last number of years.
“I am in awe of the phenomenal work, commitment and leadership that Danielle gave to the role, and am excited to continue on that work and lead the IHF, as it celebrates its 50th anniversary next year.”
Eccles will be supported by Mark O’Keeffe, who has now taken on the role of vicepresident. O'Keeffe is the owner of Sugar Culture Hairdressing and Beauty Group.
Energy Efficient Grant for Irish SMEs announced
The Irish Government has announced a new grant to help small businesses to become more sustainable and energy-efficient.
Launched by the Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment Simon Coveney, the Energy Efficiency Grant is available through the Local Enterprise Offices (LEOs) and will enable businesses to invest in technologies and equipment to make them more energy-efficient.
The grant will be available to businesses that, through participation in the Green for Micro, GreenStart or SEAI Energy Audit programmes, have identified their technology and equipment need and benefits.
According to Minister Coveney, the grant will make a “significant contribution” to reducing energy output, covering 50% of costs to a maximum amount of €5,000.
He said it also will reduce the impact of small businesses on the environment, and will enable them to become more competitive over time.
“The new Energy Efficiency Grant is the natural next step for all those companies that have identified their needs around energy reduction,” he added.

■ Image Skillnet is holding a series of Connect events around the country this summer. The Connect events aim to help salon owners, managers and other professionals in the industry to come together to share their knowledge and ideas, and to learn from one another in a relaxed environment. Each Connect event focuses on a different theme and is held in a different location, with the HR, Recruitment, Culture, Rent-a-Chair event scheduled to take place in Limerick on 24 July, followed by the Leadership & Management event in Dublin on 31 July.
■ Green Salon Collective (GSC) has created a new promotional team, with an Irish salon owner among the line-up. Lorraine Naughton, owner of OB-1 Hair in Maynooth, Co Kildare, is one of the Green Libertines, who will meet virtually with the GSC team once a month, as well as take part in day-to-day communication via a dedicated WhatsApp group. The new group includes professionals from all levels in the industry, from session stylists to salon stylists. They are all passionate about believing that change starts from within. By assisting and attending industry events on behalf of GSC, as well as having a dedicated Green Libertines Instagram, the aim of the team is to raise awareness, spark conversations, and inspire action through their work and their words. Naughton is a self-proclaimed sustainability warrior, and is on a mission to help other salons across Ireland and the UK join the sustainable movement via her consultancy business.
■ The Glow Clinic has opened a new branch on Marlboro Street in Cork city centre. Owned by Dr Jennifer Owens, The Glow Clinic is already located on Mount Street in Dublin. The new Cork branch is set to offer a wide range of beauty treatments and aesthetic procedures, including injectables such as dermal filler, collagen-stimulating injectables, skin boosters, anti-wrinkle injections, and treatment of facial pain and teeth clenching. Dr Owens is a qualified dentist, aesthetic medicine practitioner, make-up artist and yoga teacher.
