WORLDSKILLS IRELAND 2023 TO SHINE SPOTLIGHT ON CREATIVE ARTS SECTOR

Taking place at the RDS in Dublin on 20-22 September, Worldskills Ireland 2023 will showcase the very best apprenticeships in the creative arts sector, including hairdressing, beauty therapy and visual merchandising. The event, which is expecting to welcome approximately 30,000 visitors, will shine a light on the opportunities within the sector, helping to prepare the talent of today for the careers of tomorrow.

Future talent is vital to the sector, which has recently seen a skills shortage. This is what Worldskills Ireland 2023 will address. Across three action-packed days, the event will bring young people together through interactive events and skills competitions, and will give attendees an opportunity to meet face-to-face with employers that are ready to recruit.

The skills competitions will see individuals from across Ireland vying for the prestigious medals. In 2022, Kerry native Laura Stack claimed the top spot in the beauty therapy competition, which she says was the “perfect launchpad” for her career. She currently works at Brid’s Beauty Salon in Limerick, as well as working as a beauty therapy teacher and assessor in Kerry College of Further Education, Kerry College of Beauty and Pembroke Beauty College, Limerick.

“Competing in the beauty therapy competition was a fantastic learning experience,” she said. “Going up against some of the best and most talented beauty therapists in Ireland, and being crowned the winner, was one of my proudest moments. I learned so much from my experience, and it has equipped me with essential knowledge, which is truly invaluable for my career.

“Worldskills Ireland offers a unique opportunity to explore different career options. I would strongly urge anyone looking to make important decisions about their future to attend.”
