QUEEN OF THE CASTLE

What’s your earliest memory?

I remember playing with my mum’s make-up, putting on her lipstick.

Who or what is your biggest inspiration?

Susan Harmsworth, who is the founder of ESPA. She has been part of the spa industry for most of her life, helping to define the concept of the modern spa, and anticipating by decades the trend for holistic treatments and natural products.

How do you relax?

In nature and spending time with my family.

What was the last great film or series you watched?

My favourite series is Escape to the Chateau. I love this show because the transformation they make on small budgets is so impressive.

Best piece of advice you’ve ever received?

Focus on what you can control and let go of what you cannot. It was my dad who told me that.

Best piece of advice you’ve ever given?

Embrace failure as a learning opportunity – it is how you use those experiences that will ultimately determine your success.

What was your first job?

I was a waitress in the Burrendale Hotel, Country Club & Spa in Newcastle, Co Down. I started working there when I was in my early teens, serving at weddings and in the restaurant. This is where I developed my passion for creating unforgettable experiences, and it was the beginning of my career in delivering exceptional service.

Favourite thing about yourself?

I like that I am resilient. No matter what challenge I face, I always find a way to bounce back and keep moving forward.

What’s the one beauty/spa product you can’t live without?

Comfort Zone Hydra Plump Mask – it’s like beauty sleep in a bottle.

Ideal holiday destination?

I love Italy. It has the most amazing architecture, culture, art and fashion. It also has the most pristine beaches.

Favourite food?

All types of pasta. It’s so versatile, so there is nearly always a dish to suit everyone. I tend to only have it as a treat, so I don’t get to enjoy it as much as I’d like. When I eat out in a restaurant, I order seafood pasta, which is delicious.

Favourite drink?

Aperol spritz. It’s summer time in a glass and ties in with my love of Italy!

Dream dinner party guest/guests (alive or dead)?

My dream dinner party guests would include American make-up artist, beauty blogger and entrepreneur Huda Kattan, who is the founder of Huda Beauty. Her story of building a beauty empire to become a self-made billionaire is hugely inspirational. Of course, I’d also have my mum and dad at the table because they have the most amazing stories.

Do you cook and, if so, do you have a signature recipe?

Yes, I love cooking. Chicken casserole done in the slow cooker is my signature dish.

What, if anything, would you now tell your 16-year-old self?

Enjoy every opportunity and experience because it will shape you in many incredible ways, and learn from your mistakes without being too hard on yourself.

How would you like to be remembered?

I would like to be remembered as someone who made a positive difference. I have always tried my very best to support and uplift those around me, whether as a mentor to my colleagues or as a reliable friend and family member
