The Make-up Competitions at this year’s Professional Beauty & Hair are the perfect opportunity to make your mark and be recognised in the industry

With Professional Beauty & Hair 2025 taking place at Dublin’s RDS on 9-10 March, among the many highlights are the Make-up Competitions, which will run over the two days. There are five categories in total, including a special Instagram category.

SUNDAY, 9 MARCH

1 CREATIVE FRONT COVER – MOVIE STARS

This category requires you to create a visually compelling look suitable for a front cover. With Movie Stars as the theme, your design should be detailed and intricate, showcasing your keen sense of colour and creativity. It is essential that your final presentation withstands close scrutiny.

2 BRIDAL – GLAMOROUS, NATURAL OR TRADITIONAL

To ensure a successful and captivating presentation for your bride, it is essential to align their vision, whether it embraces glamour, celebrates her natural beauty, or honours cultural heritage, while meeting the expectations of even the most discerning clients. Your goal is to encapsulate your bride’s unique essence through impeccable make-up, hair, nails, and overall styling. Keep in mind that your final look should be impactful from both a distance and up close.

MONDAY, 10 MARCH

1 CATWALK – ELEMENTS – EARTH, FIRE, WATER AND WIND

The four classical elements—earth, water, fire, and wind—are not just mere concepts; they are the very essence of our existence, painting a vivid portrait of the world and the profound tapestry of the human experience. Integrate these elements into your styling by harmonising nails, hair and make-up to reflect your artistic interpretation. Keep in mind that your final look should be impactful from both a distance and up close.

2 CHARACTER – MUSICALS

Taking your influence and interpretation from one of the many musicals throughout the ages, your task is to take a well-known musical character and infuse the character with your own unique spirit and flair. You must incorporate prosthetic pieces within your design, which are then to be coloured with either brush, sponge or airbrush. Keep in mind that your final look should be impactful from both a distance and up close.

ONLINE CONTEST

INSTA MAKE-UP – IRISH MYTHS AND LEGENDS

Create a photo to showcase your skills and business. This image should illustrate your talent and creativity. There will be two awards for this competition, chosen by the judges and the public. Entry deadline is 5pm on Thursday, 27 February 2025. The online public vote will take place on Wednesday, 5 March 2025.
