WELLNESS WISDOM

Kerry Kelly is the manager of The Castle Spa at the five-star Dromoland Castle in Newmarket-on-Fergus, Co Clare

What’s your earliest memory?

I remember trying to make perfume with my friends, using rose petals from our garden. We were so excited about creating something that we could gift to our mums, but it always ended up smelling more like a wet dog!

Who or what is your biggest inspiration?

During my time at The House of Elemis, I had the privilege of reporting directly to Noella Gabriel, who has a deep understanding of client needs, a passion for holistic therapy, innovation and science, and sharp business instincts. It was inspiring to see her work.

What was your first job?

I worked at Sanctuary Spa, a ladies-only day spa in the heart of Covent Garden.

Ideal holiday destination?

Tulum in Mexico, which has beautiful beaches, a vibrant culture and rich history. The Mayan ruins overlooking the Caribbean Sea are a must-see.

Favourite food?

Mexican cuisine. I love the way it blends ingredients to create something delicious. Tacos are a particular favourite of mine.

Favourite drink?

Red wine. It enhances a meal or creates a cozy atmosphere during gatherings.

How do you relax?

I love to immerse myself in a good book or show. I also enjoy yoga or going for a walk in nature; both help me clear my mind and recharge.

What was the last great film or series you watched?

Motherland or Bad Sisters. The writing in both is sharp and clever.

Dream dinner party guest/guests (alive or dead)?

Madonna, Oprah Winfrey, Sam Barry and George Michael. This mix of iconic figures would lead to a fascinating discussion.

Embrace failure as part of the journey – it’s easy to fear making mistakes, but each setback often teaches us valuable lessons and helps us grow’

Do you cook and, if so, do you have a signature recipe?

I do cook. My signature dish is Tuscan chicken, which I serve over pasta or with a side of crusty bread to soak up the delicious sauce.

Best piece of advice you've ever received?

Embrace failure as part of the journey – it’s easy to fear making mistakes, but each setback often teaches us valuable lessons and helps us grow.

Best piece of advice you’ve ever given?

Pursue your goals.

Have you changed the way you work or run your business since the pandemic?

The pandemic impacted everyone’s wellbeing, so we’ve expanded our offerings to include stress-relief treatments and wellness workshops, helping guests find balance and relaxation in challenging times.

Favourite thing about yourself?

I take pride in my adaptability and problem-solving skills, and I embrace challenges as opportunities for growth.

What’s the one beauty product you can't live without?

I have to pick more than one! Oskia Renaissance Cleansing Gel, Dr. Barbara Sturm Sun Drops SPF50 and Seabody Glycan Enrich Moisturiser.

What, if anything, would you now tell your 16-year-old self?

Embrace every opportunity. It’s OK to take risks and explore different interests, as these experiences will shape who you are. I’d also remind myself to prioritise self-care and to value my own voice.

How would you like to be remembered?

Ultimately, as someone with kindness and positivity, who always wore Coco Mademoiselle!
